Wordsmith-not

After watching a re-run of One Direction: This Is Us on HBO one weekend, I decided to seek out some of the songs I heard on the movie, particularly Change My Mind. This song from their first album Take Me Home is memorable to me. I particularly like the chorus mainly because of the melody and secondly the lyrics. It's romantic. I'm a girl, so I definitely fall for the I'll-give-up-anything-for-you lines. A part of the verse actually sounds like What Makes You Beautiful, which I somewhat like (what the heck is "somewhat"?).

I ended up getting all their album. From their latest, FOUR, I especially like--no, love--Stockholm Syndrome. For the melody, of course, not the lyrics! (CREEP-A-ZONE!) I'm not saying that Mr. Harry Styles, who took part in the composition of the song, is at all creepy. Just sayin' because he told in one interview that the song is about a nympho. See?

What I love about this song is how it feels like an 80s song, new wave-kinda-ace of base-kinda-MJ (because of the "oh!" I'm guessing). I actually can't describe it. I just like it.

Anyway, sharing with you this beee-oooo-teee-ful song.

PS. I think this was also the song that got leaked over the Internet before the launch of the album.

Ok, I never thought I'd see this one day: idol group members singing a crazy song and not being totally right in the head while doing so. I'd peg this right up there with Psy's Gangnam Style and Lim Chang Jung's Yeoboseo. However, the lyrics of this one is funnier, probably because of its truthfulness and simplicity. The song is catchy enough to make you want to listen to it over and over again.

Big Byung, translated to Big Bottle, is composed of N and Hyuk from VIXX, Jackson from GOT7, and Sungjae from BtoB. Talk about a bunch of misfits. They are so funny in the MV. Oh, and from the comments on this video, Kpop fans did not just liked it...they loved it. And they want more Big Byungs! I'm with ya, guys! I want more craziness.

"Why am I even in this group, that's the real STRESS!" ~ VIXX's N

If this group becomes a permanent sub-unit, someone suggested that the fandom name should be Thirsty or Bottle Caps. LOL. I vote Bottle Caps.

But before I even get my hopes up, it was said that this is just a random project they made for the show Hitmaker. Maybe they'd change their minds?

The temp group also made their appearance on the variety show Weekly Idol. Did I say they were hilarious? Can't stress that enough. Ugh, STRESS! X-)

So, last Friday August 29, 2014, I was at SM City North EDSA to watch Rurouni Kenshin. I planned to watch this on the first day of its showing. However, due to heavy rains, traffic, and the sucky MRT situation that week, I didn't have the energy to do anything more than just go straight home and lie down on the bed.

So, I did. And actually, I also wanted to watch Guardians of the Galaxy after Kenshin. But I wanted to eat first, so I went to The Block to find somewhere to eat. Lo and behold! There was a show happening. A meet and greet thing. When I looked closer, I almost jumped up and down like crazy. The Summer Set was included! Holy smokes!

How could I say no? I just had to donate PHP100 to have a chance to meet and greet The Summer Set. Of course, I scrapped the 2nd movie plan I had and went to the registration booth. Sadly, the limited 50 seats for the meet and greet was already filled up. Dang! But the side seats were still available for PHP50 donation. Of course, no second thoughts about that as well.

It was early still, about 3 PM, so I still had a long time to wait because the fan party will start at 6 PM. So, I decided to choose my seat and got a really good one. I talked to some people there and left my umbrella as a seat saver so I could eat lunch-dinner.

Stomach full and bladder empty, I went to take my seat again and wait for the show to start. And what a meet and greet it was. I think I'm not biased when I say this, but The Summer Set got the most shouts because when they arrived it was pandemonium! Everyone was standing on their chairs, including me. I think they couldn't believe it themselves. They even said they don't get this much enthusiasm from their fans in America. And just to remember the overwhelming feeling, they filmed the crazy crowd and posted in in their instagram accounts.

Here's from @the_summer_set: http://instagram.com/p/sTll3tMnI1/

Also, I'm so kilig that John Gomez noticed the heart-shaped hands I was making and answered with a heart of his own! OMG!!! And then, and then...I found out that fans do this for them because their logo TSS forms a heart shape with the S's and because Lightning in a Bottle has "hearts in the air" in the lyrics. And here I thought of doing the heart shape because that's what Kpop fans do. I practically looked like a long-time TSS fan! But in truth I've only been for about 3 months. But I love them already.

And then, turning to a crazy stalker, after TSS's portion, I went out and stood by the gate where they will get out. And waited for them:

The Summer Set will perform at the Bazooka Rocks III on Sunday, August 31 at the SMX Convention Center. In one massive indoor pit. No sections. If I lived near the venue I would watch, but SM MOA is so far away.

I'm ending this post with my favorite song of theirs: Must Be the Music from their 2011 Album Everything's Fine

After rediscovering K-pop this year (I say 'rediscovering' because I've known Kpop for a while, but didn't really care for it as much before), I have to say I pretty much like songs from boy groups. I find their songs are better suited to my tastes, plus their voices are not pitch-y (meaning, it doesn't irritate the hell out of me) like the girl groups. I admit it's also because I'm female. But that doesn't mean I can't appreciate girl groups. Proof of that is Spica. I love their new song so much I'm posting it here. The only other Kpop video I blogged about was SHINee's Why So Serious, and I LOVE that group. Seriously.

You won't hear teeny-weeny, cutesy, pitch-y voices here. Goes to show that what they're saying about the group's talent is true. I hope they do make it big, especially now with the support of Lee Hyori.

Ok, it's been a while since I've written anything. Lately, or just late last week, I've been fangirling on SHINee--a 5-man boyband from South Korea. I'm not new to K-pop, but I wasn't a fan either. I like J-pop more, which is probably because of the animes I watch. :D

Anyhoo, last week was also the time SHINee released their newest album and single "Why So Serious?".  What can I say? I love the new song! I'm not sure how to classify the music though. Electro-pop-dance-funk-rock? It's a mix actually and somehow it all comes together in this song. The most notable part of the song for me is the refrain where Taemin and Jonghyun sang:

[Taemin] daeum ssinui keullaimakseu mak sijak dwae
[Jonghyun] I eumagi deouk deo keojimyeon urin saraisseo, tonight

The beat and melody is so different from the rest of the song that it just pops out. Not to mention it sounding great. Add the way it was merged into the chorus--it was just amazing. Ok, I'm totally fangirling now... :") More proof that this song is worthy of fangirling: just 5 days since the official music video was up on youtube, it already has 2 million views! Way to go, boys!

Anyway, as much as I love Hello, Lucifer, and Dream Girl from SHINee, this song just rocks it out of the park for me. See for yourself...

Speaking of J-pop, SHINee does have a Japanese album out...*searching youtube now*

Just watched a replay of the Top 13 results show of American Idol, and I'm glad that my faves in the boys got through, Philip Philips, Heejun Han, and Colton Dixon. Very happy that Jessica Sanchez made it. Yey! Another Filipino-American this season. I hope she makes it to the very end. I also like Erika Van Pelt for the girls.

However, I think one of the boys will win this season - AGAIN. C'mon girls! Represent!

Couldn't say much about the judges, since as of today, they'll have no say on who stays or goes. But they did great in bringing in an eclectic mix of super talented people to the show.

Yun lang. Bow.
